Leeds research on children experiencing crime

Aims of the research:
This project was undertaken for the Abuse, Bullying & Crime Project in conjunction with Victim Support, the Leeds Inter-Agency Project, and the Leeds Racial Harassment Project. It was funded by the Children's Fund.

The overall concern of the research was to find out as much as possible about the experience which children in Leeds had of crime and to provide information which would be useful in improving the provision which is made for these children.

This report consists of a summary of the key points of the research, the findings and the main recommendations of the two reports on children as victims of crime produced as part of the original research in 2003.
The research was designed to explore the following.

    1. about crime
    2. the support they currently have
    3. what they feel is and is not supportive
    4. potential additional support they need
    5. what they see as the barriers to accessing services.
  2. Parents views on
    1. The support needs of their children
    2. how they see the direct and indirect impact of crime on their children
  3. The nature of existing services:
    1. What services are currently available
    2. gaps in current provision
    3. how services can work together to become more effective
    4. how different types of crime affect children
    5. how service provision can respond to these differences
    6. what they feel constitutes good practice
    7. what are seen as the barriers to young people accessing services
